More light on the women composers of the Baroque
The Italian soprano Roberta Invernizzi, a benchmark in the performance and style of Baroque singing, has invited a group of friends to the stage of the Patio de los Mármoles in order to pay homage to the forgotten Baroque women composers: Barbara Strozzi (author of a collection of cantatas for soprano soloist and basso continuo of the same quality of any of Cavalli’s compositions), Isabella Leonarda (the first woman in history whose musical compositions were published), Settimia Caccini (whom Monteverdi deeply admired) and Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (a harpsichord virtuoso in the court of Luis XIV, who forged her way among composers such as Couperin, Rameau and Charpentier).
