Fantastic homage to Berlioz

An afternoon in 1827 Berlioz fall in love with Harriet Smithson, the actress who played the role of Ophelia in a performance of Hamlet. That love at first sight inspired the first and revolutionary notes of the Symphonie fantastique, which set a turning point in the development of XIX century French music with its great orchestral display, its antisymmetrical melodies, its complex harmonic scaffolding and the use of melodic images as leitmotiv. Pablo Heras-Casado will pay homage to the French composer in the 150 anniversary of his death, with a concert that will start with a nod to Stravinsky and a selection of lieder from Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn.
