The Ethics of the Sublime

Singer, instrumentalist, composer and thinker of music, Mayte Martín never sings something that is not sublime, engaging and original. Talent, sweetness and an artistic honesty proportional to the greatness of her merits, Mayte Martín has just been awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2021. This award is the latest in an extensive list of awards that began in 1987 with the prestigious Lámpara Minera (Mining Lamp) of the Festival del Cante de las Minas de La Unión. A lucid conscience of contemporary music, Martín is a living legend of flamenco who never stops creating pieces that have become classics. She is an artist with an unquestionable ethical and aesthetic commitment, she fulfills what Spinoza predicted in his Ethics: “a body capable of many things has a fundamentally eternal soul”.
