Beethoven in Dance

World premiered in December 2019 in Paris, this creation by the exquisite choreographer and ballet master of the Biarritz Ballet, Thierry Malandain, was his great tribute to Beethoven for the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of his birth in 2020. With the experience of having put The Creatures of Prometheus to dance earlier, the director of the company of this glamorous French city has joined here the cantata Op. 112, excerpts from the Ruins of Athens and Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral” to share the musician’s emotion towards nature and ancient Greece, through their refined movement. The costume design evokes that imagined ancient Hellenic world, including simple white robes that add serenity to the bright staging. Malandain keeps the maxim of the great composer, “beauty could save the world”, as an artistic commitment. For this reason, he continues to be a promoter of academic dance with his contemporary neoclassical ballets, accurately performed by these magnificent dancers.
