The Beginning of a New Journey

In its first edition in 1952, the Festival de Música y Danza Españolas –this was its name in that first edition– had among its protagonists the dancer and choreographer Antonio (Seville, 1921-Madrid, 1996), accompanied by his inseparable artistic partner until that time, Rosario. They danced on June 16 and 17 in the Plaza de los Aljibes with a program that included a bolero school, some of the most important dances from Albéniz, such as Asturias or Triana, and several flamenco pieces. In the current edition, to celebrate the centenary of Antonio Ruiz Soler, always known for short as Antonio, the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía reproduces that opening program in all its splendour by the hand of its nine dancers and its ballet master, Úrsula López, in charge.
