Between Battles and Fugues
Ton Koopman’s artistic residency culminates with a solo recital as organist, a facet of his activity that has always run parallel to his endeavour as a conductor. He will be play the instrument of the El Salvador church created in 2001. The recital by the great Dutch master begins with an anonymous battle, an essential genre of the Spanish Baroque, where the spectacular horizontal trumpets typical of Iberian organs were exploited at will. Then he will continue with the music of the Aragonese Pablo Bruna and moves to the German world to establish a kind of scale that, starting from Froberger, Sweelinck and Buxtehude ascends to Bach, of whom Koopman will offer a fantasy and diverse choral preludes which will end up with a fugal finale.
