Orchestral Dances in the Dark

The great Italian flutist and conductor Giovanni Antonini begins his artistic residency at the Festival by leading the Seville Baroque Orchestra in a program with which they resoundingly triumphed in 2022 both in Seville and in Madrid, the complete set of Bach’s four suites for orchestra that have survived. These are works born at different moments in the composer’s life for different situations and each one has a different structure and instrumentation, although they are all marked by the French overture with which they begin and by the succession of dances with which they are completed. Complying with the character of the genre, Bach sometimes added free movements, not necessarily apt for dancing, such as the famous Aria from Suite No. 3, which has become one of the most well-known pieces, not only of the composer but of the entire history of music.
