Cross Tributes

Mario Prisuelos pays homage to two of the composers celebrated this year at the Festival. First to Tomás Marco, resident composer. Then, to Ligeti, of whom we celebrate his centenary. In his concert we find the Ligeti who had not yet left Hungary, the one who was already developing his own personality from the legacy of Bartók (officially left behind in the country), with an important piece like his Musica Ricercata, but also the later Ligeti, the one of the feverish and joyous imagination of the Études. It could be said that the approach to Marco is an act of tribute within tributes, since the three works are linked in some way with some other composers: thus the Soleá was written to pay homage to Turina on his centenary, the Sonata en forma de Cármenes, premiered by Joaquín Achúcarro in Úbeda, unmistakably drawn from Falla, and Ligetoven –which says it all in its title– is an attempt to link the German genius of the early 19th century with that of the great Hungarian maestro, who is honoured in this surprising and suggestive recital.
