Among Friends
The new appearance of Javier Perianes is part of the tribute that is being paid to pianist Alicia de Larrocha in different parts of the world on the centenary of her birth. Perianes suggests a music program that was the continuous warhorse of the great Spanish pianist and in which he draws bridges with the city of Granada and with a group of composers who had important personal bonds at the beginning of the 20th century: Debussy, with his Granada pages and his Sérénade interrompue, which seems to imitate a Spanish troubadour (and hence the guitar imitations); there is the Falla that paid homage to Debussy after his death and the Falla that, almost on a par, was composing the Fantasia Baetica one of the most intricate and eternal works of Spanish piano; there is Albéniz and his unforgettable Albaicín; and Granados, capable of recreating with Goyescas the very incarnation of Goya’s majas. Indeed, many different worlds that fit into those years.
