Music with a purpose
An extraordinary concert with a charitable intention brings together the OCG, conducted by its chief conductor Lucas Macías, with the Madrid-born singer singer although with origins in Cádiz, Clara Montes. On the program, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8, his most cheerful and casual symphony (“my little symphony in F”, the composer used to call it, to differentiate it from the Sixth, written in the same key). The Eighth, with its long and joyous coda, seems like a pleasant farewell to the classical world. It is followed by The Bullfighter’s Prayer (1925), in the version for string orchestra that Turina himself performed two years later. The concert finishes with Love the Magician in its first version, the gypsy music that Falla had written for Pastora Imperio and which was premiered at the Teatro Lara in Madrid on April 15, 1915 with a reception that was not as enthusiastic as its creators would have wanted, which led Falla to make various versions that would culminate in the 1925 ballet. Today, however, the original version has gained an enormous reputation and is often preferred to later ones. Tonight, for instance.
The fundraising will go to people affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
