Organized by the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance in collaboration with the University of Granada, the Manuel de Falla Courses represent the educational aspect of the Festival, offering high-level training and contributing to the advancement of studies and professional fields in music, dance, and other related disciplines, all taught by internationally renowned faculty.
In its fifth edition, the Festival’s Baroque Academy will focus its content on Classicism, represented by one of its foremost figures: Joseph Haydn. New languages and timbral and technical challenges will be introduced by the resident composer of the 73rd Granada Festival, José María Sánchez-Verdú, through his work SHEBA (Seven Studies for Historical Orchestra based on “Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze” by J. Haydn). To conclude this course, two concerts will be held as part of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance.
The study of analytical, creative, and interpretive aspects of the musical repertoire preserved in Spain and Latin America between the 16th and 18th centuries will be the thematic focus of the course co-organized with the University of Granada. Additionally, José María Sánchez-Verdú will coordinate the course titled Poetics of Current Creation: A Journey through the Territories of Thought and Interdisciplinarity, which will bring together philosophers, poets, architects, and composers in Granada. Alongside these activities, traditional workshops in photography and inclusive staging, masterclasses in piano and classical dance, and courses in musical pedagogy, classical dance, and musical creation for audiovisual media will complete the programming of the 55th Manuel de Falla Courses.
