Around Chopin

Yulianna Avdeeva stands among the most distinctive pianists of her generation. A winner of the Warsaw Chopin Competition, she has forged a career defined by stylistic integrity, structural lucidity, and a searching, deeply personal engagement with Romantic and twentieth-century repertoire. Her recital focuses on Frédéric Chopin, a composer with whom she shares a profound artistic affinity —from the inward intimacy of the Nocturnes, Op. 62 to the precise millimetrical architecture of the 24 Preludes, Op. 28. Alongside Chopin, she presents works by Władysław Szpilman, the Polish Jewish pianist, Holocaust survivor, and author of the memoir that inspired Roman Polanski’s celebrated film The Pianist. Written in the 1930s and during the war, Szpilman’s music adds historical depth and human dimension that engages in dialogue with Chopin and broadens the program’s expressive landscape.
