A Master Organist from Notre-Dame at the Granada Cathedral
The Festival's first matinee takes us to the monumental cathedral for a visit from one of the world's great organ masters. Since 1985, when he was only 23, Olivier Latry has been a permanent member of the Notre-Dame de Paris organist quartet, a position that has decisively shaped his international career. This is complemented by extensive teaching at the Paris Conservatory and a prolific recording career, including albums for labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, where, among other things, he has created a definitive complete recording of Messiaen's organ works. Also recognized as one of the great improvisers of the French tradition, Latry presents this program featuring great European music, exploring the manuscript of Susanne van Soldt, connected to the teachings of Sweelinck, and then delving into Iberian and French music of the 17th and 18th centuries.
