Dancing to Purcell
Blanca Li returns to the Generalife Theatre with a new ballet, which is contemporary, casual and deepening in traditional roots, based on the sublime baroque opera Dido and Aeneas, created in 1688 by Henry Purcell on a libretto by Nahum Tate. The Granada-born choreographer has designed a choreographic and plastic show with constant movement, very sensual, full of ideas, images, sense of humour and enormous beauty. The abstract and changing scenography is combined with Pascal Laajili´s graphic lighting with the purpose of opening the space and creating powerful aesthetic atmospheres. Fantasy and freedom are targeting the symbolism and the strength of the emotions contained in both the text and the music. "I have focused on enhancing the emotions and, with the aid of dance, highlighting everything that the script and music cannot explain," says the choreographer.
