Art and Essence in Flamenco Dance
Since its creation, the Antonio Gades Company has been one of the main references of Spanish and flamenco dance. It displays the elements from the school defined by the great Gades, in which the aesthetic and refined language is paramount, though deeply rooted in the Spanish traditions and culture. Blood Wedding, a choreography from 1974 that turns 50 this year, is a well-established model in the world of dance, the essence of Lorca's work, which consecrates flamenco as a dramatic language capable of telling stories, and so being able to disseminate the words of this universal poet. It is a timeless, passionate and exciting story. The program is completed with Suite flamenca, a set of seven traditional flamenco dance pieces: solos, duets and group dances by the Alicante-born choreographer. Artistically directed by Stella Arauzo, the Antonio Gades Company is the spearhead of the Foundation which, directed by his widow, Eugenia Eiriz, and presided by his daughter María Esteve, keeps alive the flame of one of the most important legacies of Spanish dance.
