The Magic Fire
The Budapest Festival Orchestra ranks among Europe’s most distinguished ensembles. Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 3, the “Rhenish”, offers a radiant and generous vision of the symphonic genre, inspired by the landscapes and spirit of the Rhine. As a dramatic counterweight, the final scene of Die Walküre by Richard Wagner condenses myth, emotion and transcendence in Wotan’s farewell to Brünnhilde and the invocation of the magic fire, culminating in one of the most intense passages of nineteenth-century musical theatre.
