Ravel, Viñes and Falla in their Anniversaries
Falla and Ravel met in Paris in 1900. The Festival brings them together on the 150th anniversary of Ravel's birth and the centenary of the premiere in Paris of the ballet version of Love the Magician. The name of Ricardo Viñes, pianist par excellence of that environment and friend of the two musicians, joins the anniversary because he was born the same year as Ravel and he introduced Manuel de Falla to the French musical world of the period upon his arrival in 1907, in addition to being the person to whom Nights in the Gardens of Spain was dedicated to. The French pianist Bavouzet and Juanjo Mena will offer in this concert two of the fundamental works for piano and orchestra not only of their composers, but of the entire century: the Nights by Falla and the Concerto in G by Ravel. Furthermore, this program also unites them by revolving around dance: La Valse marked Ravel's break with Diaghilev, who refused to premiere the work with his Ballets Russes, whilst Love the Magician was converted into a ballet and presented in Paris. Between the two, you will hear Epiclesis II, an orchestration work by Juan-Alfonso García of his original work for organ "composed on the centenary of Manuel de Falla’s birth and dedicated to him", premiered in the Cathedral of Granada in 2009.
